Synopsis
Stereo Mic Position Calulator is a tool for audio recording. It calculates the position and angle of a stereo microphone system according to AB, XY and ORTF techniques.
Description
In order to capture an ensemble’s full stereo bandwidth (pun intended), the imaging angle of your microphones must match the “conductor’s viewing angle”.
It’s impossible to guess the setup needed to achieve a certain angle. It involves complex math. If your angle is to wide, the ensemble will crowd in the center of your mix. If it’s to narrow, the instruments will tend towards the speakers. You’ll want neither of these.
My app Stereo Mic Position Calculator does all the heavy lifting! Enter you scene’s dimensions, and have your angles and distances calculated. The app will sketch a scale drawing of your setup.
